Chess is one of the most popular games in the world. At the initial phase, beginners feel difficult to understand the names of chess pieces and their moves. The different chess pieces are king, queen, rook,knights and bishop

King

King is the most important piece on the chessboard. A player can win the game by checkmating the opponent’s king. The king can only move one square, in any direction.

Queen

Queen is the 2nd most powerful piece on the chessboard. Queen can move vertically, horizontally and diagonally in chess

Rook

Rooks are the 3rd strongest piece on chess. Rooks can move both horizontally and vertically.

Bishop

Bishops can only move diagonally in chess.

Knights

Knight is the only piece who can jump over other chess pieces. The knight moves ‘two steps forward and one step sideways in any direction.

Pawn

A pawn moves one square forward on each move.
