Drawing In A Worse Position

ChessStrategyAnalysisTournament
We all love to win, and nobody likes playing in a worse position for a long time. Well i do. In this post i will explain to the best of my ability how to draw in a worse position

Hello everyone!!! This is Michael Burns!!! A chess Enthusiast that tries to share my knowledge about some tricks and traps in chess. In this post i will Try to explain on how to save a worse position and make it into a draw like the way i do it. It is a very important skill, that will save you many rating points, trust me, it saved me hundreds.

As they say, "in chess exchange when your up material" but my teacher shared a widely unknown trick, "when you trade it gets closer to the draw even though your down a pawn" But you MUST know when to exchange, otherwise you WILL get to a lost pawn endgame. ideally keep some of the heavy pieces, like 1 rook and 1 Knight, Or Queen And a Knight, Or a Bishop And a Rook, etc... I will show a Perfect example of this.

As you might be wondering, WHY did not i go for active defence? The real reason is that it can be VERY dangerous to start attacking when your down material, as your attack will mostly run out of steam and pieces. Remember your down material. Try to stay calm and continue playing solid, chess, until your opponent makes a MISTAKE. Read my advice VERY Carefully: You must immediately take advantage. otherwise, they may not give you a chance if they are higher rated.
White took the rook and lost. be careful and just draw the game as soon as possible, in this case with checks. White took The rook and lost, try to draw as soon as possible, don't go into any complications, just achieve
your main goal, to draw. Note that giving a check first and winning the rook as lost too due to nf3+ etc...
He should have given the checks and been happy with the draw.

Once you achieve your goal: a well known draw position, don't get excited, don't try to "grind" them down, besides, thieve had the advantage the entire game, They will want it back, and you are not magnus, probably not ever going to be, its good to face it. You have to now begin stage 2. After you have the draw position, don't just offer them a draw 274,664,927,496,732,576 times, play it out. Otherwise they will complain. They WILL try to fight for a win, just relax, defend accordingly, and they are going to be the one offering you a draw, Trust me they will get tired. A important note: Don't relax after you have your desired position, stay alert for possible attacks, even the unjustified attacks.
If Your Opponent is that eager to win, he/she will go into a unjustified attack.
Moving On to Step 3: Watch Your Time VERY carefully. While trying to defend a horrid position, don't just take a break from thinking and then resume your analysis, you probably can not even notice when your doing it, its just an issue that all of us will face, its not bad or anything. Taking a break wastes your valuable time. We want to have enough time to be able to hold the position, otherwise when you will get low time, your going to miss a tactic, or to begin to move pieces aimlessly, or just lose another pawn. Your opponent is going to put you under a great deal of pressure, so its important to know how to handle it.

I played 39. Nd1? and i succumbed to the pressure, Nb5! is a better try, as explained above. My issue was that i got BELOW 2 MINUTES ON THE CLOCK. As i stated earlier, realizing how much time you have is very important, and when you eventually learn this techniques by experience, the moves will come to you naturally, trust me.

With that, This Post comes to a wrap.
Thank you so much for reading!!
