Had this position as White in an over the board game tonight. Black played 45...Rg8 threatening mate on g2. What happened next?
http://en.lichess.org/analysis/r7/3P3p/5k2/1pbq1p1Q/5P2/8/6PP/4R2K_b_-_-Re6+. Capturing with pawn loses queen. If Kg7, Qg5+ and there's multiple solutions to mate
Then you promoted your pawn to bishop and mated him ;)
No, you promoted the pawn to knight and mated him :D
erm... White's going down the board (not too sure why it's published it that way round) - so Re6+ Qxe6 isn't too clever?
#4 There is a knight promotion line if he goes 47....Rg7. What about 47...Kf6?
..then you take Rg8 and go Re8 in the next move ??
What was the opening?
I'm gonna guess Qh6+ Rg6, then d8=Q+ Qxd8 then Qh4+!
#7 That's correct. And Black has no answer despite having Q+B for R!
It was an Alekhine's - forgive me if I don't share the whole game as there were a couple of horrendous time-trouble blunders which I'd prefer never to see again :) But the finish was nice!
