What if a chess site were set up to completely eliminate rude behavior?

A player in my chessclub is a really nice person, his behaviour is always very quiet and friendly.

He told me (when he was drunk) that he is a big dickhead in online chess. He is a bad loser there and is good in insulting other players. Thats why he dont like to play much online.

I think some people arent able to control their lower instincts if they are anonymous. Nobody is regulating them online and they have weak personalities.

By the way: I think 1 out of 10 is very optimistic. In my opinion 10% are insulting others, 20% only if they are in a bad mood and another 30% are unfriendly (never say hello or say good game afterwards) and the minority of 40% is more or less handsome.

Thats one of the advantages of playing in a club: There are even the online-assholes just friendly and very normal guys...

Best wishes

I think if the OP is the Pope, it would make sense for people to be a LOT more reverent. I mean, this is the person who upholds centuries of tradition. Are you really going to say "hahaha, should have taken the draw when you had a chance gramps" to him? That kind of disrespect is just crude.

If he's not the Pope but a normal person, he should probably just STFU and disable chat if he hates it that much.
I find it quite strange how people see someone's point of view and then have to shout it down in a churlish and rude manner.

It's the same in real life, I suppose. The so-called liberals decide that they are 'right' and try and suffocate any other way of thought.

James suggests that this community is full of immature dicks, and some superassholes. James suggests entire community should be 'very strictly moderated' and banned if they exhibit any rude or unsportsmanlike behaviour, which according to James is not subjective (and not calling others dicks or assholes).

Not so much a point of view as it is a decree, a decree I find more rude and churlish than any of the replies incurred. Let's ban james.
@cat_person The problem with disabling chat completely is that I've met some really cool people through online chess. I like to say "Hello" at the start of a long game, and I like to analyze the longer games afterwards with my opponents and become friends with them.

@Nadastar, perhaps you are right and it is that bad. I recently went through a period at chess.com playing longer games where every other game when I typed "Hello" the person would ignore it or disable chat.

You know what else? I find that sometimes the people who ignore the Hello, if I'm able to get in a winning position they'll suddenly type "Hello" then. It's like some people only respect you if you're able to beat them, which shouldn't be, everyone should get respect regardless if they win or lose. And I've also seen a guy who was very rude when they played against people at their level or lower than them, but then they played against a master and were suddenly really nice and polite.
I really just don't know what to say to somebody complaining about rude behavior on the internet. Regarding this site, I would rather efforts first went to banning people using bots - this is the highest form of rude trolling possible on a site like this.

Yes that was the point of my hyperbole, rudeness is not adequate reason to ban someone, this thread is stupid.
Please refrain from attempting to lower the intelligence level any further.
